2010 Season Week 1 Recap!

Well, week one has come and gone. This week definitely showed off the power of the scoring changes for receivers: every winning team except for The Vikings can credit their victory in no small part to a receiver (or two, or three) who cracked 20 or even 30 points. Last season a good week for a top tier receiver was 18 points, so it's a "whole new ball game" (that was incredibly lame, sorry).

Team of the Week:  Credit where credit is due to the Bearpaws. 145 points isn’t quite a league record, but it’s definitely a top 5 highest scoring games in our three season history. Congratulations, Brian!

Best Match-up of the Weekend: We had several good games this week, but SHARKS versus Sentinels gets my vote. SHARKS seemed to have the Sentinels dead to rights in terms of projected points, but some amazing play from Sentinel’s receiving corp kept the game close going into Monday night. Both teams broke 100 points, and the game was decided by only two points. Very exciting.

Players of the Week: 

• Arian Foster, RB, 57 points (owner: The Vikings. Man, Mike looks like a frickin’ genius. Arian Foster was worth 33% of the points in the Vikings/Ragazzi Pazzi match)
• Chad Ochocinco, WR, 43 points (owner: Bearpaws. Their whole team played well, but Chad Ochocinco of all people really carried the day)
• Peyton Manning, QB, 39 pts (Owner: Legal Beagles)
• Miles Austin, WR, 35 points (Owner: Elune Sentinels)
•  Chris Johnson, RB, 35 points (Owner: SHARKS)

Tough Luck Team of the Week: Ragazzi Pazzi. They didn’t even leave a ton of points on the bench; they certainly didn’t leave enough to overcome the raw shock and awe power of Arian Foster. The whole team just sort of...didn’t show up. Better luck next week!

Sure, it’s a win, but...: I’m thinking of discontinuing this award. For this week, I "win" the dubious honor. The Watchmen put on a decent show of 114 points, but it’s hard to feel too good when your opponent has clear RB troubles (one RB had 0 points. Wildcats backup RB on the bench? Also 0 points).

What could have been: The Legal Beagles left 47 points on the bench (the 2nd highest scoring player of the week was Matt Forte, who did not get started). They would have only needed a few points to eek out a win versus GC Dark Knights...tough break.

Looking ahead: Well, 4 of week one's winning teams are playing eachother week two (only my Watchmen are not), which means that at least two teams will get to start the year 2-0.
